Chinese Team Stripped of Gold, Ten Years Too Late

By Shane Craver on April 29, 2010

The Chinese women’s gymnastic team from 2000 was finally stripped of the Olympic Gold after an investigation validated the obvious-to-everyone fact that its athletes were indeed to young to compete.

It was ruled that Dong Fangxiao was only 14 years old when she won the Olympic Gold with here teammates, making her two years under the age requirement of 16.

The move by the International Olympic Committee comes ten years after the games were judged but now gives the Gold to the United States’ team.

Dominique Dawes, an athlete from the 2000 U.S. team told the Dallas Morning News, “Justice prevailed. My teammates are very well-deserving of the bronze medal, and I'm sure each and every one of us will be thrilled. We will cherish it.”

The communist nation of China has accepted the ruling but has failed to allow its citizens to hear the news as it controls all media within its borders.

It was speculated by many that China cheated in the 2000 Olympics, and now, ten years later, the speculation was validated by an obviously slow-moving Olympic Committee.

The story won’t end with the 2000 Olympics as the Chinese clearly continue to forge documentation for their athletes.

At the Bejing games, Chinese gymnast Linlin Deng won the Gold medal at 4’5” and weighing a mere 68 pounds.

At the time, renown Olympic coach Bela Karolyi, railed to the press, “They are using half-people! One of the biggest frustrations is, what arrogance. These people think we are stupid.”

The communist nation of North Korea is alleged to also have entered underage girls in the Bejing games.

This really is outrageous. The Chinese team cheats, with government support and all that happens is they are stripped 10 years later? They should be stripped of all metals in that sport afterwards. They cheated in the '08 games as well. The IOC is pathetic and so is China. I'd boycott their products but given I only buy high-quality goods now, I really don't have anything to boycott.

I'm sad about this. The girls who really won, our girls, will never get back the glory they deserved even if a hunk of metal is handed to them. Sad.
