Seven Seconds to Consider Windows 7

By Shane Craver on October 22, 2009

Just a quick disclaimer, we at ConCrave hate Windows. We would sooner go back to drawing symbols on cave walls than use the Microsoft OS, but since we’re in the minority on that one, we’ll take time to cover Windows 7, which was released today.

Actually, we’ve been using Windows 7 in beta for months now and it does have a few redeeming features. First, the desktop image in the beta version, featuring a Beta fish is kinda cool.

Second, it doesn’t have a stupid name like Vista.

Windows is marketing itself as a fast, intuitive operating system with new features that have been resident in Apple’s OS for years like live taskbars and previews.

In reality, the main two selling points are that it’s not Vista and it doesn’t crash as much as XP.

You can pickup an upgrade to Windows 7 for as low as $120. If you want built in backup protection (a no brainer these days), you’ll have to drop $200. Thankfully, they did include a family pack upgrade offer, three PC’s for $149 .

Compared to Apple’s new Snow Leopard it’s a bit pricey. Apple’s new OS runs only $29 for a full version or you can get a family pack (up to five Macs) for $49.

I'd say that's a bit harsh, but considering Vista, MSFT deserves it.
